Little Jamison Falls is a great hike for anyone looking for a quick trip to a great hidden waterfall. The falls flow year round, but the best time to view them is in the spring as they slow down as summer progresses.
To get to the falls from the town of Graeagle, CA take Graeagle-Johnsville off Highway 89 towards the town of Johnsville. After 4.5 miles take a left on a dirt road to Jamison Mine Day Use Parking. If you go over the bridge and into the town of Johnsville, you have gone too far. Continue down the road until you reach the parking lot at the end near the old mining buildings.
After parking, follow the signs towards Grass, Rock and Jamison Lakes. These are great day trips for those looking for a longer hike. The trail to the falls is roughly 1 mile uphill and features a combination of trail and stairs built into the hillside out of boulders. After ascending the first 3/4 miles on the steepest section of stairs, the trail flattens out and continues for a quarter mile to the falls.
The 60 foot falls are marked as a side trail and there is a great viewing area on the cliff above the falls. For those who are more adventurous, there is a few trails the lead to the base of the falls but they should not be attempted unless you are confident in your abilities to get back out. For those who wish to extend their hike, Grass lake is just a short distance up the trail. To return to the trailhead simply retrace your steps and enjoy the downhill all the way back to your car.
