About this place

Added by Josiah Roe

Old Razorback / Mt Trego is the iconic peak overlooking the vast Black Rock Desert and the Burning Man festival, wherein you can observe the sheer size of playa, the remains of Lake Lahontan, and the big Nevada nothingness. It's as if you're climbing a mountain on the moon. From the summit, both sunrise and sunset are something to behold.

The trip begins by turning off Nevada highway 447 onto the unmaintained Jungo Road (county road 49) and driving 19 miles to the end of the northeast spur of the mountain at a clear turnoff and rise in the road.

There is an obvious use-trail for the first 500 meters or so, and simply follow the ridge to the obvious summit. There are a couple of false summits where contouring slightly below the high-point will make for easier going.

On the way out take a dip in the Trego Hot Springs, except when it's Burning Man when BLM closes the springs.
