Rocky Point is a good place for self contained camping close to Eagle Lake, the second largest natural lake in California (Clear Lake is the largest and Lake Tahoe is in two states, CA and NV).
Rocky Point has a bulletin board and toilet but no developed campsites. At Rocky Point visitors must pack in and pack out all trash and waste water. A vault toilet is on site. Campers like the opportunity to "circle the wagons" and set up where they want on a large open natural gravel flat near the lake. The mile long shore access dirt road also affords pull offs along the road. Eagle Lake has been very low the last 4 years however small boats can still access the water from the gravel shoreline road. The site is also good for kayaking. Bring your own shade. Rocky Point is not a fee site but donations are encouraged to help maintain the toilet, bulletin board and gravel access road.
To get to the camping area from Susanville, travel north on Highway 139 for 30 miles. Turn west (left) on County Road A-1 and travel approximately 6 miles. Turn south (left) at the bottom of a mile long grade.
Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed or under owners voice command.
