Before you go: Chugach State Park is home to bears and moose. Consider carrying a bear bell or bear pepper spray, and definitely be familiar of what you should do in case of encountering one of them. The weather can change fast in Alaska so be prepared for anything -- bring a rain and warm layer along, just in case.

Flattop Mountain - 3.3 mile RT, 1300 ft elevation gain

Easily the most popular trail in Chugach State Park, this short and steep hike leads to panoramic views of Anchorage, the Cook Inlet, and the Alaska range.

O'Malley Peak - 9 miles RT, 1200 ft elevation gain

Great hike with a bit of rock scrambling at the end that provides great views at the highest point overlooking Anchorage at 5,184'.

Hike to Rabbit Lake - 10 miles RT, 1,440 ft elevation gain

This is an amazing hike near Anchorage, that provides incredible views of the mountains and lakes without extreme effort. The lake is stunning.

Hike to the Crow Pass Cabin - 6 miles RT, 2080 ft elevation gain

Hike a portion of the former supply route to the Iditarod Dogsled Race and view mining ruins alongside the trail. If you have time (and a permit) you can spend the night at the cabin!

Bird Ridge - 5 miles RT, ~3500 ft elevation gain

A tough one, but worth it for the incredible panoramic views and abundance of wildflowers.
