A Gimbal for Adventure: The MOZA Air 2 Review

In planning for our holiday project down the Baja peninsula (coming soon) the Outbound Studio team recognized the need for a lightweight, ultra-portable and cost-effective gimbal that was compatible with the the Sony A7R iii, and we chose the MOZA Air 2 from Gudsen.

Designed to handle an equipment load of up to 9 lbs (perfect for a camera with a variety of lenses and an external monitor), the Air 2 was easy to setup and the auto stabilizer made it nearly idiot-proof.

More importantly, for our needs shooting in remote and off-grid locations along the peninsula, the MOZA Air 2’s battery life of 16 hours made it possible for us to shoot all day (and into the night) before recharge. Though the location of the batteries in the handle grip made it a bit awkward on removal.

Additionally, the MOZA SPARK power supply system meant that the Air 2 could power the camera *and* monitor, which was a nice touch.

Finally, the controls were, quite frankly, smooth like butter and straightforward. With all manner of fantastic modes for time lapses, sports panning, and even an “Inception Mode”, all controlled through the MOZA App.
