About this place
The prealp Barcis Valley is a must see place in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The area is home to breathtaking landscapes and nature at its best.
The colors of the water of this lake alone, from green to blue, a great reason to plan a trip to this magical place. But, you shouldn't miss out on the opportunity to follow the Dint Path, a trail through the woods near the Forra del Cellina Nature Reserve.
The main path is easily accessible from the road near the lake dam. From the beginning you are immersed in nature, through a beech forest and after a few minutes we reach the first of three observation points, called "Belvedere." From here, take in a breathtaking view over the lake and the nearby town of Barcis (for those who are afraid of heights, I suggest not looking down..It’s very high, but also is completely safe).
Continue your excursion down the woods following the signs of Dint Path, until the second Belvedere. Here there’s a wonderful view of the gorge of the River Cellina and the old road of Valcellina. The peacefulness of this place gives me chills for minutes! When ready, return to the path. After passing through some Spruce, you'll arrive at third Belvedere and personally my favorite Belvedere. Third Belvedere is a little artificial tower that allows you to admire the Mount Fara; during sunsets it’s really breathtaking and the perfect ending for the journey.
This relaxing hike takes about 2h and it’s mandatory for autumn lovers because of the colors that surrounds Barcis in this particular period of the year! You’ll fall in love with it!
The place is very easy to reach. From Udine, follow the driving directions to Maniago and then to Barcis. There you'll find some parking areas (not many). The drive is about 50 minutes!
