Make the usual 30 minute train ride from Bologna to Florence last five beautiful days by traversing and camping in the Apennine Mountain Range.
The Path of the Gods begins in the main piazza of the ancient Italian city of Bologna (61 m/200 ft above sea level), ascends to 1200 m/3,940 ft, then brings you down to the beautiful Tuscan city of Florence (70 m/230 ft). This hike meanders through the lush forests of the Apennine Mountain Range, follows ancient Roman trails, and passes by old Italian villages. Be prepared for some steep elevation changes.
If you have a tent, you can camp just about anywhere on the trail, but if you prefer to stay in B&B's there are plenty of options in the villages along the way. These towns also have pharmacies, coffee shops, and supermarkets, so if you happen to forget something essential, no need to distress!
