A natural waterpark.
One of Illinois' best kept secrets, the Kincaid Lake Spillway is a awesome swimming hole just outside of Murphysboro. The three level cascade makes for a great place to spend a hot summer day. People sit, splash, or even slide down the tiers into the pools below.
There is a small side trail that will allow those not wishing to get wet access to the top for a great view of the 2,750 acre Kincaid Lake. Most of the year, there is flow over the falls, but if it has rained a lot then the spillway could be treacherous. Take caution in either case and wear proper footwear.
Be on the lookout for beaver, many species of birds, and also river otters. Through protections, otters and beavers now thrive in Southern Illinois.
The summers here an be crowded, but there is a large parking lot, bathrooms, and a picnic area with charcoal grills.
