An easy paved hike and boardwalk trail through one of the northernmost cypress tree swamps in America.
For a great introduction to the Cache River Basin of Southern Illinois make your way to the Barkhausen Cache River Wetlands Center. Here you will find a spur trail to the Tunnel Hill Bicycle Trail, information and exhibits, and ranger information about area trails and paddle put in's.
Just outside is a great loop trail that will take you through the boardwalk of cypress and tupelo trees along with seeing many migratory birds, reptiles, and butterflies.
It is a great place to stretch your legs or warm up prior to a paddle of the bayou of the Cache River Canoe Trail.
The half mile loop Egret Slough is also family and ADA friendly.
