About this place

Added by Madison Sankovitz

Possibly the best time to see Redfish Lake is at dawn, when the fog is rising and the water is still. Grand Mogul and Mt. Heyburn provide a stunning backdrop to this pristine site in the Sawtooth Mountains.

There are several good spots to photograph along the shore of Redfish Lake. The marina at Redfish Lake Lodge is a great viewpoint. Also be sure to follow the path to the east of the lodge to visit some of the beaches on the north shore. It is here that you can often find yourself alone at dawn when the lake is completely still. Many mornings there is a blanket of fog covering the lake, so capturing it clearing can make for some stunning photos. Photograph the sunrise shining against Grand Mogul and Mt. Heyburn (peaks across the lake) for a beautiful shot. Many birds can be seen flying across the lake at this time of morning as well. Be sure to bring a jacket - it can be chilly that early in the morning!
