This is ride is pretty short and easy but is very fun & flowy. Get panoramic views of beautiful Payette Lake plus, ride through some pretty, lush forest.
Park at the visitor center for Ponderosa State Park to start. If you don't want to pay for parking you can park in the residential area outside of town or even in town, which is only a mile away from the park and has bike friendly roads to get to the state park.
If you want more challenging downhilling, ride the loop counter-clockwise. I prefer to ride it clockwise because there is a really fun and smooth downhill section at the end.
If you ride it clockwise you'll start by heading toward the campground on the road. Stay right at the fork and head east past the campground on Miles Standish Rd, which is like a double track gravel trail. You'll soon see the Huckleberry Loop trail begin on your left. For 4.5 miles stay on the Huckleberry Bay Loop trail. The trail winds through forest near the lakeshore. If you ride this at dawn you'll get pretty cool views of the sunrise over the lake. At the end of the peninsula, the fun little downhill section begins. After the downhill, the trail gets really flat and wide for 2 miles along the west side of the peninsula. This trail will bring you all the way back to the park entrance.
