About this place

Added by Taylor Davies

An easy day hike accessible both from Stanley and Ketchum, Idaho. The climb is a good workout. 3-mile distance makes it accessible for just about anyone willing to huff and puff a little. Elevation Gain: 1050 feet. Deer roam the hillsides and wildflowers abound.

This 3-mile round trip hike starts at above 8,000 feet, just shy of Galena Summit. If you have not yet adjusted to the mile-high altitude of Ketchum, prepare to be fairly winded throughout this walk. Though only 1.5 miles to the lake, the trail is at times quite steep, so be prepared to climb. The altitude at the highest point is about 9,050 feet. Once at the lake, if it's hot enough, there's a spot to easily wade in and swim if you want (but it's alpine water and VERY cold).

Pack plenty of water (and snacks if you plan to hang out for a bit) and keep an eye out for deer, chipmunks and plentiful wildflowers in the summer months. The trail is manageable for families, dogs and anyone looking to get some seriously scenic payoff for a relatively quick excursion. Treat yourself to lunch and a beer at Galena Lodge on your way back to town!
