Hike to Beehive Lakes

To get to the trailhead, drive north on highway 95 from Sandpoint and turn left onto Pack River Road near the gas station. Drive approximately 19 miles and look for the sign on the left for Beehive Lakes Trailhead. The road was passable but I would recommend 4 wheel drive.

This hike begins at 4,420 feet and climbs 6,460 feet in 4.5 miles. The trail leads through a thick forest with views of surrounding granite mountains. The forest floor is covered with wild blueberries in the late summer and fall! We were able to follow the first 3 miles of the trail well. The last 1.5 miles watch carefully for cairns leading the way up the granite slabs to the lake. It took us 2.5 hours to hike to the lake.

We explored around the lake and made our way up toward Twin Peaks for lunch. It took 2 hours to hike back down to the car.

There is a food box located along the shoreline of the lake when you first arrive. If you decide to stay overnight, make sure to place food in the box to keep away bears.
