About this place

Added by Bob Hollywood

Located in the Lost River Range, this 6-mile hike provides you with scenic views of surrounding peaks and alpine lakes. I've been in mountains my whole life and this place took my breath away.

The trailhead starts at the end of an old jeep trail. If you are brave with your 4 wheel drive you can drive to here and cut 1.4 miles off your hike. My mile counting started at the trail head. The trail is very well marked. At about 0.3 miles it crosses Bear Creek. In the summer this will often be dry. The trail goes across a talus slope (be especially careful if this is wet). After the slope the elevation gain begins. At around 1.5 miles there will be a sign to Wet Creek or Bear Creek lake, go left toward Bear Creek Lake. You will follow through a meadow into a Douglas fir forest. After traveling through dry creeks, talus slopes, meadows, forests, rocks slides and sage brush, you will see spikey rock spires, this means you are almost there. You will come around the corner to a beautiful, green, mountain lake, surrounded by 3,000 ft shear mountains. If you are a photographer, bring a wide angle, because it is nearly impossible to get these huge mountain all in one picture with the lake. Sit down and enjoy. It is truly awe inspiring. One word of caution, there are mountain lions in this area, be on the look-out.
