About this place

Added by Lisa Bao

Scenic lookouts over the ocean and not crowded. Easy access and short walk from the parking lot. Great for relaxing and chillin with friends. Duration: 1-2 hours (depending on how long you want to spend there).

Alan Davis is what the locals call it, but the official name is the “Ka’Iwi Scenic Shoreline” and it's known to be a good place to do some cliff jumping because of the easy access, clear water, and poles that are already positioned for jumpers in the rocky shoreline.

Park in the same lot that takes you to the Makapu’u Lighthouse and tide pools. Follow the road as it leads you up to the lighthouse trail, but before the lighthouse trail starts, veer right at the fork to get to Alan Davis. The trail is short and flat and takes about 10 minutes. When you reach the beach you’ll see a fork in the trail. Go right and you’ll end up on the sand. Go left and you’ll end up on the rocky shoreline to do some jumping.

It's best to jump during high tide, and don't dive off the pole since the water is fairly shallow. The water is pretty nice and clear, so snorkeling here is also an option. If you can't tread water or swim, there are a few rocks you can stand on in the water.

If you're not into jumping or swimming, hang out on the rocks with a beer or take a short walk to Pele's Chair - a nearby rock formation which many are known to climb on top of. Be careful of the rocky way down if you decide to test your rock climbing skills.

If you're hungry when you head out, drive north up the road about 3 miles and grab some garlic shrimp or ahi tacos at Ono Steaks & Shrimp Shack.

Absolutely love this place, but it's getting more crowded every time I go. :(
