About this place

Added by Karyna Wilkerson

Beachfront tent camping. Great beach for shell hunting, especially Sunrise Shells, which are only found in Hawaiian water. Picturesque Na Pali cliffs lining the northern edge of the beach. Duration: Overnight.

Polihale Beach is at the western most point of Kauai and it's perfect white sand shore stretches for over 15 miles. Come here to avoid the notorious Kauai rain, as Polihale is typically sunny and cloudless throughout the year. The sunsets here are some of the best around and the island of Ni'ihau can be seen looming in the pacific. The gorgeous Na Pali cliffs frame the north end of the beach.

These Kiawe Tree-lined campsites are equipped with bathrooms, cold showers, BBQ grills. Don't forget to pick up your camping permit, which can be obtained at ehawaii.

Keep in mind that the final stretch of road to get to polihale is bumpy and pot hole ridden. Drive carefully. Also, as with many of Hawaii's beaches, strong ocean currents and shore break may occur at any time of the year. No lifeguards are present. Swim at your own risk. The area before the campgrounds, known as "queen's pond", is safe for swimming.

Be careful when gathering firewood. Most of the trees that surround the campsites are Kiawe trees and their limbs are covered in thorns. Walking barefoot anywhere near the trees is not recommended.

If you're looking for supplies, Waimea/Kekaha is the closest place to get gas and food. You can swing by Camping Permit for some bentos or other supplies.
