About this place

Added by Molly Maxwell

The hike to Porto Timoni is one of the most breathtaking coastal walks in Corfu, leading to a spectacular double-sided beach with turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. This scenic trail rewards you with both adventure and relaxation, making it a must-do for hikers, swimmers, and photographers alike.

Trail Overview

  • Difficulty: Moderate (steep and rocky in sections)

  • Time: 1–2 hours round-trip, plus time at the beach

  • Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late afternoon to avoid heat and crowds

Getting There

  • Trailhead Location: Starts from the village of Afionas, on the northwest coast of Corfu

  • Parking: Small public lot at the edge of Afionas or along the village road (can fill quickly in summer)

  • Nearby Landmarks: Close to Agios Georgios Pagon and within 45 minutes of Corfu Town by car

Hike Experience

  • The trail begins with a walk through Afionas village, followed by a steep descent along a rocky, uneven path to the lookout point.

  • At the viewpoint, you’ll be treated to a stunning overhead view of Porto Timoni — two crescent-shaped beaches back-to-back, dividing a narrow peninsula.

  • From here, you can either:

    • Descend to the beach for swimming, relaxing, or snorkeling in crystal-clear waters

    • Continue around the outer edge of the peninsula for a loop back with views of the island’s north side — equally stunning and less traveled

What to Bring

  • Sturdy hiking shoes or sandals (trail is rocky and slippery)

  • Water and snacks – there are no facilities on the beach

  • Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen

  • Mask/snorkel (optional but worthwhile – excellent underwater visibility)

  • Camera or phone – the views are photo-worthy from every angle

Good to Know

  • Not recommended for small children or people with mobility issues due to the rocky terrain

  • No shade or vendors along the trail or beach – come prepared

  • Beach is unorganized (no chairs or umbrellas), but that’s part of its charm

  • Swimming between the two coves is popular, but take care with tides and wind

Insider Tip

Take the loop option if you can — returning via the opposite side of the peninsula offers completely different views looking back toward the north and the village of Afionas. It’s absolutely breathtaking, especially in the late afternoon light.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re up for a short but rugged hike and want to visit one of Corfu’s most iconic and beautiful beaches, Porto Timoni is a must. The combination of panoramic coastal views and a secluded double beach makes it one of the most memorable spots on the island.
