About this place

Dive to the past in this picturesque town made of stone

Areopoli is one of the most significant towns of the Mani area in southern Peloponnese, Greece. It has retained the traditional architecture of the area, based on stone buildings and high towers that used to offer fortification and protection - either from the Turks or the pirates. The town reached its heyday during the mid-19th century and to this day its glory is preserved in its historic centre where most of the towers, houses and churches still stand.

You may park at the entrance of the town and then enter its historic centre on foot as it is a pedestrian zone. There are multiple museums, cafes, restaurants and traditional guest houses. I would highly recommend to taste the local cuisine which is amazing and also enjoy a coffee or drink in one of the cafes in the alleys.

If you choose to stay in Areopoli, besides the town itself, you may also want to visit the nearby (5km) fishing village of Limeni and swim at its crystal clear waters. On a different kind of activity, about 15min drive from Areopoli are the caves of Diros.
