Because the park is nearly unheard of amongst locals, it's all but abandoned and makes for some phenomenal sunset landscape photos.
West Dam is located across the road from one of the most prominent structures in area: J. Strom Thurmond Dam. Thurmond Lake is created by the dam and the park is located on this lake. Fishing is extremely popular here, especially for largemouth bass and striped bass. There is a large swimming area that is roped off with a large beach and a volleyball court for fun in the sand as well. The park is mainly used as a drop-off location for fishermen, so the park is empty 90% of the time. Because of this, landscape photographs of the parks gorgeous scenery are easy to get, and sunset photos over Thurmond Lake are beautiful.
The best place to catch the sunset is the left beach. You'll see a row of sailboats out in the distance...it's absolutely gorgeous. The entrance fee is $5 for the day and the park hours are from 8AM-8:30PM. Enjoy!
