Come enjoy one of North Georgia's most relaxing past times, paddling on scenic Lake Burton. The lake is surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and has incredible cabins along its shores.
Lake Burton is, in my opinion, Georgia's most scenic large lake. It is completely surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and has some of the clearest water in the state. Moccasin Creek State Park is a great launching point for all of your paddling adventures, whether you own your own vessel or want to rent one at the park.
If you have your own canoe/kayak/SUP, you can take off from the Moccasin Creek State Park boat launch. However, on the weekends there can be a lot of boat traffic, so I recommend that you launch near the canoe storage shed, on a small and shallow cove. You can ask any park officer where that is, but it is just beyond the basketball hoop and towards the water.
If you opt to rent a canoe/kayak/SUP, you can do so at the park office, which is right at the entrance of the State Park. There are three-person canoes, two-person kayaks, one-person kayaks, and SUPs available. Once you pick your cruise ship, you will be pointed to the aforementioned canoe storage shed to retrieve your ship and set off on the water.
Now that you are on the water, you will find that Moccasin Creek State Park is at the western end of one of Lake Burtons many 'fingers'. A two-mile paddle will find you at a fork in the paddle, where you can either go straight towards the main body of the lake, or turn right and head another mile towards the Chop House, a tasty lake-side restaurant with a dock. If food is your end-goal, then make sure you bring some rope to tie up on the dock.
Lake Burton is also one of Georgia's best fishing lakes, with the state record Striped Bass being caught in this lake. Just be sure to have a Georgia State fishing license before casting out.
