This is an easy hike with a great pay off! Only .5 miles on a wooden walkway from a great little picnic area on the water up to to Turtle Mound, an oyster shell midden rising thirty five feet above the Mosquito Lagoon.
After first entering Canaveral National Seashore, this is the stop of many hiking options in the park. We walked in toward Mosquito Lagoon and found three well spaced picnic tables and two paths.
A path along the lagoon that is well marked to preserve the ecology. We tried this one but it was flooded only twenty five feet in (maybe because it was high tide?)
An ascending board walk that took us over the treetops and through vies and many butterflies of all kinds to two different viewing locations were we could view the Mosquito Lagoon to the West and the Atlantic ocean to the East.
For the kids, stop by the visitor's center first so that they get a park passport and learn as you visit the park.
