About this place

Added by Stephen Catalano

A gem for D.C. locals and a must-see for any visitor. Spend your next morning on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to watch the sun come up over the reflecting pool.

Located on the far-west portion of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. stands the Lincoln Memorial. At almost 100 feet tall, this majestic structure overlooks the reflecting pool and offers an iconic view of the Washington Monument.

Parking is almost always an issue near the Lincoln Memorial, but if you arrive early enough, you may be able to find a paid parking space nearby. The nearest Metro Stations are Foggy Bottom and Smithsonian, and Capital Bikeshare has a docking station just around the corner.

The Lincoln Memorial is free to all visitors and you'll find that you aren't the only one enjoying the view.  Morning joggers, photographers, and tourists from all over the world come to admire the incredible site.

After you finish up sunrise, explore the rest of the nearby sites. Take in some history and enjoy a great day on the National Mall.

Get up early
I went several times of the day. This was the best not only for photography, but enjoying the monuments without mobs of people.
