Hike the Pondside Trail, Killens Pond SP

Located in the heart of Kent County, Delaware, Killens Pond State Park features a 66 acre millpond, established in the late 1700s. Today, the park is a favorite destination for fishing, camping, hiking, and more.

The Pondside Trail follows the circumference of the pond, and meanders through hardwood forests, over creeks, and past the park's campsite, where the smell of campfire often fills the air. Look out for scenic overlooks along the way.  

To access the Pondside Trail, enter the park and follow the road until reaching a large parking lot. Look for a wooden sign near the pavilion area that marks the Pondside Trail.

Begin the trail by turning left. Follow the path until reaching the Killens Pond Nature Center. Stop in the center to see local wildlife.The Pondside Trail then continues to the left of the nature center. The boat dock is a short distance from the nature center.

Important note: 
When reaching the boat dock, it may be difficult to find the trail, and many first-time visitors become lost at this point. After arriving at the boat dock, continue past the boat rental building toward the road. At the road, turn right and walk on the road to cross the pond. The trail picks up again in the forest by the self-launching boat ramp on the opposite side of the pond.

From there, the trail continues along the edge of the beautiful pond and loops back to the parking lot.
