About this place

Added by Carter Clark

Avalon is a great crag just 10 minutes up Boulder Canyon, nestled in a bit for good morning shade and a quieter climb than many other spots in the canyon

From Boulder, the pullout that is best to park at for the Avalon crag is 8.4 miles up the canyon. You will walk down the side of the road past the talus field, where if the river is too high to wade you can use the tyrolean traverse. Otherwise, you can wade or hop across rocks according to the day's water height.

There are many obvious trails to get you to the rock once you cross the river. Be sure to stay on these. Otherwise, unnecessary erosion will wreck this land.

The crag is split into three different tiers, all with entertaining climbs. Be sure to pay attention to guide books or Mountain Project before heading up a route, as some are mixed routes requiring cams and nuts. For the sport routes, the most quick draws you need is a dozen.

There is everything from 5.7 to 5.12 here, making it a great spot for groups of varying abilities. Easy to navigate, you can get time on a lot of different rocks in a morning out. This is definitely a crag that will have you wanting to go back more than once, so take your time on projects and enjoy.
