This is an amazing place to watch the sunset, without having to hike. Take a leisurely drive to the top of Independence Pass from the towns of Twin Lakes or Aspen. Bring some wine and cheese or your favorite beer and sit back for mother nature's show!
Start in the town of either Aspen or Twin Lakes and continue on Interstate 82 to the top of Independence Pass. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for the Ghost Town of Independence, fields of wildflowers and the occasional moose, elk or deer. Continue on to the top of the pass where you will find a large lot for parking. There are bathrooms and a paved trail to a vista point. In the summer, plan on reaching the top by 7:30PM to explore before settling in to watch the sunset. Grab some local beer from Aspen or Twin Lakes and enjoy the view!
