View the stars at one of the darkest places in the area.
While Florrisant is known mostly for its history and collection of fossils, it is also one of the darkest places in the Colorado Springs area. While the park closes daily at dusk, it has Night Sky Programs monthly which allows visitors to view the stars with the help of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society. The times and dates vary depending on the time of year, but the night starts with a short presentation of the local light pollution and sky. You are then able to go out into the parking lot where various types of telescopes will be set for you to view the sky. There will also be local astronomers to show you the various sights of the galaxy. Be sure to dress warmly, bring a flashlight, and check the weather ahead of time!
