About this place

Added by Improvised Journeys

The trail to Lawn Lake is a beautiful, isolated hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. The trail makes for a mostly shaded hike with wonderful photo opportunities.

This 4 to 8 hour day hike leads to Lawn Lake, located inside a large basin at tree line, and surrounded by Fairchild Mountain, Hagues Peak, and Mummy Mountain. Lawn Lake is among the largest subapline lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park.

As you ascend into the sub-alpine zone, you will be greeted by the sound of running water, and soon rewarded with beautiful, lakeside views. Along the way, you can also branch off towards Ypsilon Lake – the Ypsilon Lake Trail split is located 1.4 miles down Lawn Lake Trail.

The Lawn Lake Trail is a steady uphill climb, recommended only for hiking and seasoned trail runners. Although the path's terrain can be quite rocky in places, there is nothing technical about this trail. Backpackers are also common on the trail – check with park rangers for available backcountry campgrounds.

Finally, if you are hiking in the afternoon, be alert for summer thunderstorms.

Driving Directions: From the Beaver Meadows entrance of the Rocky Mountain National Park, continue on Highway 34 for 5 miles and make a right onto Fall River Road. Drive about 2 miles before a left onto Old Fall River Road and look for an immediate left into the Lawn Lake Parkng Lot. Take the obvious trail out of the parking lot a short distance and you'll intersect with Lawn Lake Trail. Head left and follow all the way to Lawn Lake. If you feel like extended the total trip by a few miles, you can continue up to Crystal Lake.
