From this point the trailhead is easily followed from the trailhead to the summit. This hike is fairly steep and has an elevation gain close to 2000 ft over an approx. 4 mile round trip. At some points the trail is slick with loose dirt, exercise caution going both up and down the mountain. There are some steep drop-offs on this hike, be carful and keep a close eye on small children and dogs. The summit of this hike is marked by a flagpole at the peak of Mt. Garfield, this is an out and back hike and the trail back to the parking lot is the same trail to the summit. This hike offers unparalleled views over the entire Grand Valley from Palisade to Fruita. While this hike is strenuous the view at the top is well worth the hike!
