About this place

Added by Ian Glass

Great hike hidden just outside of Allenspark, CO that offers a break from the crowds and a nice introduction to snowshoeing.

From the trailhead, follow the trail through the woods until you reach a meadow with a steep slope. Some portions of this slope reach an angle of 30 degrees and may feature slight avalanche danger in the winter. However, the trail is used enough that such conditions would make themselves known and avoidable.

From the top of the slope, continue along the trail until you break tree-line. At tree-line, the trail will continue for another 300 yards before reaching the ridge line. At the ridge line turn right (North) and follow the last half mile off-trail climbing to the summit. In the winter the ridge line is usually windblown, making snowshoes unnecessary from this point to the summit.

Getting There:
From Estes Park, Allenspark is 15 miles south on CO-7 or from Lyons, follow CO-7 18 miles west. Once in Allenspark, follow Business-7 parallel to CO-7. Then locate either Ski Road or CR107. Both roads are good-quality dirt and merge after less than a mile. Continue south to a Y-junction. In winter, the road may be impassible past this point and limited parking is available at the intersection. In the summer, take a right at the Y and proceed to the trailhead parking lot. The hike is 7.7 miles from the Y intersection and 6.7 miles from the trailhead.

Underrated Hike
This area is one of the more underrated in the front range. The views are awesome and you will likely encounter only a handful of people
