About this place

Added by Tobin Akehurst

Distance: 13 miles roundtrip. Elevation gain: 3,900 ft. Class 4. A full day of hard travel though epic backcountry brings you to 13,761 ft. summit. Incredible view of the San Juans.

Begin by hiking the Ice Lakes Trail for 3.5 miles, which will take you to Ice Lake. From here, you can identify the obvious, delta-shaped mountain to climber's left, known as Fuller Peak (13,761ft). Hike cross country, directly toward the base of the North Ridge (right skyline), walking past Fuller Lake. Pass under the cliff band and gain the North Ridge. Climb over easy ledges to the summit.

You can alternatively ascend the saddle between Fuller and Vermillion Peak, then bear north on the ridge top to the Fuller summit.

Enjoy the view, then descend the route. This hike is best done when the ground still has snow cover.
