What's better than camping in the shadow of one of the most famous spots in Colorado? Nothing. Silver Queen Campground offers a great spot to set up camp and hangout about a mile from Maroon Bells. Equipped with a flowing creek at your back its the perfect spot to relax before heading into the Snowmass Wilderness.
To start it off, head out from Aspen on Maroon Creek Road. Once you get to the park, you will either have to pay the charge at the booth or if you get there after 5pm, you can self pay at the cash box, which is $10. You'll also want to get an overnight parking pass set up which doesn't cost extra and can be grabbed from boxes in the parking lots. As you drive down the road towards Maroon Peak, you'll see a few campgrounds before seeing the sign for Silver Queen campground. Turn in and you're good to go. NOTE: These campgrounds are normally crowded from late May-September, so you will want to call the park or go online and reserve a spot just to be safe.
Once you arrive at your campground there are fire pits, picnic tables, and tent platforms already set for you. You just need to bring a tent, supplies and set up. I personally love this campground because literally within 20 feet is Maroon Creek, which provides a really relaxing running water sound all through the night.
This campground is also only minutes from the parking lot at Maroon lake which provides that iconic picture of Maroon Bells, just make sure you get there early to get a good spot for photos!
