Climb Mt. Garibaldi

Driving north from Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway (HWY 99) pass through Squamish. Turn right on to Cat Lake Road (Cheekye FSR).49°48’52.6”N 123°07’25.5”W

From here the route becomes a logging road and is not well maintained. High clearance is necessary for this road. Follow Cheekye FSR for 7.1 miles / 11.5 km until reaching a closed gate. There is an area for overnight parking just before the gate. The trail begins on the logging road which continues past the closed gate and leads 1.2 miles / 2 km to two snow mobile club buildings.

Find the trail going north up Brohm Ridge. The trail is well graded making for quick hiking. The trail winds along the ridge line and starts to curve northeast towards Mt. Garibaldi. Eventually, the large trail peters out into a number of small branching paths. Be aware and continue along the ridge line. Make sure to stop to appreciate the stunning views of Squamish and Howe Sounds below.

After 6.2 miles / 10 km the ridge narrows and the trail becomes more defined. Follow the trail until it reaches the foot of the glacier. Here a small, cleared tent pad can be found and offers amazing views.

Set up camp, check your alpine gear and prepare for a magnificent sunset over the Tantalus Range.

Get up before sunrise and with headlamps (and glacial travel gear), traverse the Warren Glacier. Head up the slope until you are facing the northeast side of Mt. Garibaldi. Climb up to the bergschrund. From here it is a 15 minute scramble to the top of Mt. Garibaldi. If there is sufficient ice and snow to cross the bergschrund, continue climbing up the ice.

Celebrate your achievement, sign the summit log and enjoy one of the best views in B.C.
