About this place

Added by Stephanie Windschill

See scenic views of Thunder Bay, Sleeping Giant and Surrounding areas to a lookout drive or a short hike to the top.

Mount McKay is located on the Indian Reserve of the Fort William First Nation and is 1,000 ft over the city with stunning views of Thunder Bay, Lake Superior, Sleeping Giant and the surrounding countryside. There's a small fee to get in to the park, but if you arrive when it's closed at the gate. You can park at gate and walk up road to the lookout point which is about a half mile of a walk.

Vista a viewpoint is 500 ft below Mount McKay with a boardwalk to take in the views.

A small, unmaintained trail can be used to reach the top from the lookout via the north face. This is considered an unsanctioned hike and is considered dangerous to novice hikers.  There is also  a trail on the west side of the mountain.
