The spectacular Kinsol Trestle is a must see for Vancouver Islanders and visitors alike!
The Kinsol Trestle is a highlight of the Cowichan Valley Trail, which travels from Shawnigan Lake to Lake Cowichan and then onward to Duncan. The trestle is easily reached via a 1.3km, wheelchair accessible section of the CVT from the trailhead on Renfew Road. Originally built in 1911 for the railroad, this massive trestle was re-constructed in 2011 by the Cowichan Valley Regional District as part of the Trans Canada Trail. From the CVRD website:
"The Kinsol Trestle is one of eight trestles along the Cowichan Valley Trail route and by far the largest and most spectacular. The Kinsol Trestle is one of the tallest free-standing and most spectacular timber rail trestle structures in the world. At 187metres in length and standing 44 metres above the salmon bearing Koksilah River, the Kinsol is an incredible structure."

Walkers, bikes, wheelchairs and horses are all permitted on this multi-use trail system.
