Beautiful ocean views, easy trek, ending with a barge that was shipwrecked in 1928.
This is a 10km (4 hour) round trip hike perfect for beginners as there is no elevation gain. Check the tide tables, as the best time of day to take this hike is during low or receding tides.
Park in the day use area of Naikoon Provincial Park, a large mostly flat park on the east side of Graham Island, at the Tlell River Bridge. Follow the signs for the hike. After about 30 minutes take the higher East Beach trail at the T-junction. Winding through the forest, you'll cross a footbridge before emerging onto the beach nearing the mouth of the river. From here you will be able to see your destination - The Pesuta. This is a great place to do some beach combing!
The Pesuta was a 264 foot log barge, shipwrecked in a winter storm in the Hecate Strait in 1928. Just one of the incredible sights to see on Haida Gwaii.
