About this place

Added by Andrea Thompson

A short but exciting hike on a relatively unknown trail to the base of Tews Falls.

Tews Falls is 41 meters high - just a little less than Niagara Falls! It's an impressive sight that gains perspective from the base - as opposed to the viewing platforms you will notice way above you.

There are a couple of ways to access this hike, basically you need to get to the train tracks that run through Dundas. There is an easy access point if you park at the end of Bond Street North in Dundas, to the left you will see a well worn path heading up the escarpment. It's pretty steep at parts and there are exposed roots - so watch your footing. When you reach the traintracks go left and follow the path until you intersect with the tracks (the path naturally curves towards them). Cross the tracks and continue until you see a break in the trees on the right hand side, you'll have noticed the sound of the stream is louder here too. There is a worn path down the hill to the stream - be careful it's slippery especially after it's rained. Once you've reached the bottom follow the trail along the side of the stream. It is easy to follow for the most part, but there are a couple of steep areas to look out for. When you reach a fork in the stream - go right for another 1 km or so and you'll reach Tews Falls, passing Lower Tews Falls on the way.

You can bring a hammock or pinic lunch and hangout here for the day. In the summer, if the water levels are high enough, you can swim at the base of the falls too.

Really beautiful view of a high waterfall which, I understand, is as tall as Niagara Falls. It's almost as busy as Niagara Falls, ...
