Spend a night at a beautiful Alpine Cabin. Beautiful views of surrounding Mountains and Glaciers. Elevation Gain: 1106m. Distance: 6km (12km return). Time: 4-6 hours to the hut.
Silver Spray Cabin is a beautiful cabin nestled high in the Alpine of Kokanee Provincial Park - a perfect spot to spend a clear summer night.
The hike to the cabin is strenuous - there is no hiding that. 6km of pretty much straight uphill gets you from the valley bottom to the Alpine, where the hut is nestled in against Sunrise Mountain.
The reward is what makes it all worth it. The hut, when booked through the Alpine Club of Canada (Fee $25pp) allows you to stay up high with all the comforts you normally forgive camping. Gas cooktop, lights and fireplace provide all the comforts you need, and all cooking utensils and sleeping mats are supplied. All you need is a sleeping bag!
There are many scrambling opportunities right by the hut. Ascend following the creek to the NW of the hut to find a little alpine lake. Otherwise follow the trail up to the old mine site, or one of the nearby passes to have a more open view of the surroundings.
Also worth checking out in the nearby area is Woodbury Cabin, which leads off the same trailhead. An important note is that the access road in the last 2 km's is rough. Clearance/4wd recommended.
