About this place

Added by Sophie Lamarche

Steep, but easy hike to gorgeous view of Angel Glacier, and the glacial lake, family and pet friendly!

Double check that Edith Cavell is open, it is usually open from mid-June, to late September or mid October depending on the amount of snow and time of snowfall. After following Glacier Rd. for 14km you will reach the parking lot, with four bathrooms (no running water). If you have a long trailer or camper over 22ft, you might be required to leave it at the trailer parking lot at the bottom of the hill, due to the thin, windy roads. I would suggest applying a tiny bit of mosquito spray, as the mosquitos can be annoying.

When you are ready to hike you have a few different trails you can take from the beginning, I believe one goes through a small garden and the main one just heads straight up, but they all lead to the same trail.  It will take about 30 minutes to get to the top, taking a few breaks to drink some water. Once you get to the top you will have a view of the 3 glaciers, the glacial pond and if your lucky you might see some small avalanches! The path is quite steep, but it is paved all the way to the viewpoint.

I would recommend going early due to the smallish parking lot, and how popular the trail is.

From the viewpoint you could continue up and do the 4-5 hour hike to the summit of Edith Cavell. Due to an avalanche a few years ago that cause a huge flash flood, people are no longer allowed to go down to the waters edge, and they ask that you keep inside the barrier to prevent further damage to the vegetation.
