Explore Lillooet Lake

Lillooet Lake sits at the bottom of the Duffey Lake Road, just past the village of Mt Currie. In 2010, Mt Meager experienced a landslide totalling 48 million cubic metres, the largest in modern Canadian history. Sitting directly upriver of Lillooet Lake, the Meager slide turned this beautiful turquoise lake into a mirky shade of brown for many years. It's now returning to its' former radiant self, and winter is a great time to see it nice and bright, when the currents are slow.

From HWY99, take a right on the In-Shuck-ch Forest Service Road, just before ascending the Duffey Lake Road hill. This is an unpaved rough road, however due to the lake effect and exposure, it doesn't see much snow accumulation and is generally passable with a 2WD vehicle. 4x4 is a must when there's snow however.

Lillooet Lake is lined with rec sites (recreational, designated camping/beach areas). Strawberry Point is one of the more popular and closer sites, and you'll pass by several more heading down the road. Driftwood is gorgeous, and offers a different perspective than Strawberry. All sites are marked with signage visible from the road. The In-Shuck-ch Road is plowed during winter, as there are a number of Native villages deep in the mountains here, and if you follow it all the way to the end, you'll end up just east of Vancouver.
