Swing on the West Bamfield Rope Swing

On the island of West Bamfield, accessible only by foot and by taking a ferry from East Bamfield, itself only accessible via a 60 mile brutal dirt road from Port Alberni, is a taste of the free-wheeling, regulations-be-damned old-Vancouver-Island-made-manifest in an epic rope swing that hurls its riders through massive Douglas Firs set against a backdrop of the Broken Islands.

To get there, once you've taken the water taxi to West Bamfield and walked the magical boardwalk along the waterfront to the stairs leading up to Burlington Lane, follow that up the hill until it intersects with Beale Cape and go left.

Look for the multi-directional street sign included in the pictures above. Immediately to the right of the sign are several passageways through the brush that will eventually lead you to the rope swing. A little trail trial and error may be required.
