About this place

Added by Do Gaudet

Shediac, the small coastal town in southeastern New Brunswick, is one of the nautical gems of the province. It has a beautiful Provincial Beach, more than enough lobster shacks to satisfy any foodie, and is a marvelous sailing playground.

It's not a secret anymore, the town of Shediac in New Brunswick is home to the warmest salt waters north of the Carolinas. The Northumberland Strait passes between Prince Edward Island and the southeastern coast of New Brunswick, bringing its warm current to heat up the beach. From June to September, the water is calm and the wind comes around softly, making the Strait and the Bay of Shediac a great sailing destination.

There are two marinas in Shediac, the Yacht Club, and Pointe-du-Chêne. Both offer different a kind of lifestyle, with their seafood restaurants, sailing and speedboat crews, and their fisherman looking for seabass and mackerel on the docks. From any of those marinas, you'll just have to follow the buoys out of the canal and you'll be ready to set up your sails within minutes.

Once  in the bay, you can pitch an anchor to enjoy a little swimming or fishing, or simply to relax over a refreshing drink. You could also sail north to Cocagne Island or east to Cap Pelé for a beautiful day on the water. If you have time, wait for the sun to set on the horizon before getting back to the marina.

If you don't have access to a sailor and their boat, but you still want a glimpse of the Bay of Shediac, you can always enroll in a Lobster Bay Tour with a local company.
