One of the most stunning and least-known jewels of Ontario, the French River Provincial Park is an adventure packed with wildlife, first-class fishing, and some of the most scenic views in the province. Paddle to the "Devil's Door" at the edge of Georgian Bay where you will pass Otters and Bald Eagles, camp on rocky islands, and see rock-scapes and water chutes that will steal your heart.
French River Provincial Park is known for backcountry camping through its winding waterways and near-complete seclusion. There is lots of wildlife, great fishing, and stunning night skies to boot.
Set your GPS to the Hartley Bay Marina where you can park your car and pick up (or unload) your canoe/boat. Buy your map and speak with the attendant for your route options on getting to Devil's Door. There are many marked campsites along the way, and some notable fishing spots. It's about a two-day canoe in either direction to Devil's door, so aim for 4-5 days stay in the park.
Be prepared to paddle hard (if canoeing) into some headwinds for up to 6-8 hours a day. Once you reach the Devil's Door, you will realize it all worth it.
