See beautiful sand dunes of all types, from small rollers, to large razorbacks and bowls. Stunning landscapes and scenic views from the top of the dunes make it an excellent area for photographers. Wildflowers can be seen in the spring months.
Dumont Dunes is an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) area administered by the Bureau of Land Management as a recreational area for off-road vehicle sports, hiking, camping, rock climbing, and rock collecting. While most people come here to ride ATVs across the dunes, we opted to take a hike up the dunes instead (just keep an eye out for OHV riders). There are approximately 8,150 acres of open area. The elevation here varies from 700 feet to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill, the tallest of the sand dunes.
This area is great for all skill levels. There are a lot of dunes, big and small, for you to hike. You can make your adventure as casual or challenging as you like. Once you get to the top, run down the face of the dunes to finish your hike!
Camping is allowed anywhere within the riding area as long as it does not block travel on a road, and is limited to a 14-day stay.
