About this place

Added by Outbound

The Griffith Park Old Zoo Loop is a 2.52-mile moderately trafficked loop trail located in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. Due to its length and minimal elevation gain of ~670 feet, the hike is open to all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, hiking, and trail running, The Griffith Park Old Zoo Loop is open year-round and dogs are welcome on a leash.

Starting from the Merry Go Round Lot in Griffith Park, you'll head out on the Fern Canyon Trail quickly connecting with and switching over to the Upper Old Zoo Trail. During this section, you'll be getting a lot of the hard work out of the way with more of the elevation gain coming upfront.

As you continue on this trail, keep an eye out for the Mineral Wells Trail. You'll take a right onto the trail for only a short distance before cutting over through the parking area to the Lower Old Zoo Trail. Just after this junction, you'll do a loop through the Old Zoo. There will be a picnic area here with restrooms if you need to take a break or grab a sip of water.

From here you'll finish the loop back to the parking lot.

Along the hike keep an eye out for vistas of Downtown Los Angeles, The Hollywood Sign, and the greater LA Basin.
