Keough Hot Springs Creek

...As many of us enjoy a good hot spring to relax in, I think most will agree that it’s even better when it’s free and out in nature. If you decide to have a little bit more of a luxurious hot spring experience, you can continue to take that road about another mile to the Keough Hot Springs camping resort. That’s personally not for me, so I didn't check that out. The two-minute walk from the gate (parking area) to the hot springs is a runoff from the resort. If by any chance the gate is closed, you can easily walk around it to get to the springs. The creek has been dammed by locals, creating several natural pools. The further up creek you go the hotter the pools are. I’d say the hot springs further up range from 90-95°, while the pools a little further down are about 75-85°. Whatever your preference is, there’s something for everyone! While you’re relaxing and chilling in the springs, you’re entertained by the beautiful High Eastern Sierra Mountains!

Although the scenery is nice and the temperature of the pools is comforting, there’s a huge disclaimer! Before getting into the hot springs, there’s a sign that says WARNING: do not allow water to enter your nose, as the water has the amoeba named Naegleria Fowleri...which is the brain-eating amoeba! So definitely enter at your own risk, but honestly, you’ll be okay as long as you're not diving or dunking your head completely underwater.

Other than that, it’s a nice hot spring and it’s worth checking out. Clothing is optional here, so don’t be surprised if you see some nudist. The springs are free, but they don’t allow camping, so follow the rules and keep it clean!
