A small beginner climbing crag near the Patscherkofel in Igls

Goldbichl is a small sport climbing area close to the Patscherkofel in Igls that's perfect for beginner climbers, with bolted routes ranging from grade 3 to 6a.

The area is extremely easy to find. From the village of Igls, drive towards the village of Patsch (postcode 6082). At the T-junction, you'll see the Grunwalderhof guesthouse on the right (which is a great place to walk over to for a spot of lunch), and a sign to the left for the Patscherkofel ski area.

Turn left towards the Patscherkofel. After just a few meters you'll see a small gravel parking area with an access road and sign up to the Heiligwasser pilgrimage church. You can park the car here. The crag is on the opposite side of the road.

As you cross the road, follow the path up through the bushes to the lower part of the crag. On this lower wall you'll find 4 routes, ranging from 5b to 6a. They all had the top anchors replaced in 2020 so there's no need to clean the top anchors anymore. Just clip the carabiner and lower right off!

The easier routes are just a few steps further up the path in the trees at the back. There's also a small (but overhanging) bouldering area, where the locals have left a number of mattresses at the bottom so you'll easily see where the routes are.
