An easy and scenic hike to a picturesque mountain lake
Park at the large car park (paid parking) for the main Obernberg lake, but instead of following the trail to the lake, take the road on the right towards Haus Waldbauer.
At the end of the paved road, a gravel road bends off to the right. Follow this gravel road as it leads you uphill and back along the valley.
After around 1 hour, you'll reach a small mountain hut. Keep walking on the main gravel trail as the road zig zags uphill (don't go through the gate). After about 500 meters and a couple of switchbacks, the main gravel road continues onwards and a small hiking trail breaks off to the right. It's marked with yellow signs to the Lichtersee, so you'll know when it's the right one. This trail takes you across the meadows, and is marked by traditional red and white trail markers on stones and trees.
You'll see a wooden hut in the distance, which is right on the edge of the lake. The lake is a bit lower than the hut, so you won't see it until you're right there, but as soon as you can see the hut the end is in sight!
The hike took us about 4 hours in total. We went in May when there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground, but from June until October the conditions should be perfect.
There are bathrooms at the start of the hike at the parking area, but after that there are no more facilities for food or toilets, so do be prepared with water and snacks for the hike.
