An easy hike for any time of year with stunning views of the Kalkkogel range at the end point.
Take the bus from Innsbruck to Grinzens or if you have a car, park in the village of Grinzens at the Sportplatz. From here already you can see signs to the Kemater Alm.
The route is really simple. Just follow the dirt road straight through the forest and deeper in to the valley. For the first half of the trail the route is a gradual incline. After about 3km you pass a sign on your right to Salfeins. Keep on the main road. It’s about another 30 minutes from this point but the road starts to twist and turn a bit steeper as you gain some more altitude.
As you come out above the tree line, keep on the main route which, after 1 final sharper bend, ends at the Kemater Alm with the stunning Kalkkogel mountains behind it.
The Kemater Alm serves hot and cold food and drinks so it’s a great place to stop and enjoy the stunning views.
In the winter time many people hike up with toboggans or on touring skis so that they way back (which is all downhill) is quicker.
