Swim with Stingrays at Hamelin Bay

Just 35km South of Margaret River lies one of Western Australia's best natural gems, Hamelin Bay.  The best part about this beach is that calm and shallow waters of the bay here are home to many beautiful sting rays.  Although you will not find this beach in most tourist pamphlets, that does not mean that it is not worth seeing.  

Several different species of sting rays come to feed on fish scraps that fisherman leave by the old Hamelin Bay Jetty.  These sting rays are completely wild, but are also very friendly.  The general rule for human-wildlife interaction also applies here, do not touch them if they do not touch you.  If you wade in the water long enough, they will probably come to you and brush up against your legs.  Please note that even though these sting rays are friendly and have not hurt anyone in years, they still have barbs and their space should be respected.  

If you wander just about 200 meters down the beach, you will also find some really interesting sandstone formations.  A small section of sand surrounded by the rocks will almost guarantee you your own private beach! Come check out one of Western Australia's top coastal destinations.
