About this place

Added by Katie Kessel

Explore Rottnest Island, where you can walk or bike around the nearly vehicle-free island from beach to beach or hang out with the friendly Quokka population.

Rottnest Island is probably most famous for its adorable Quokka population, but the island also has lots more to explore outside the main settlement.

With well-marked walking and biking trails both on the beach, track and road, there of tons of places to see. With trails as long as 40km, you can spend any number of hours taking your bike or walking shoes around the island. There are several maps available that offer different walking tracks that are coloured and marked so that you can bike or walk towards one of the many natural destinations around the island. You can see more about renting bikes and the trails you can explore here:

The island is accessible by boat or by ferry, which you can catch off the coast of Perth. Once on land, you will land at the Settlement, where there is a small grocery store and a few different restaurants and bakeries.

A hop-on hop-off shuttle service is also available around the island if you want to make your way to the other side of the ~10km island.

I recommend trying to stay on the island for at least a night to take a look around. As well, the Quokkas are even more active at night since they are nocturnal.
